Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton announced charges today against the girlfriend of Daron Gaylior Jr., a suspect in two homicides who died following a standoff with police last week.

April Marie Abare, 34 of Flint, is charged with lying to a police officer conducting a violent crime investigation and and harboring a felon. Both charges carry a sentence of up to four years in prison.

Daron Gaylor was suspected of two murders related to two separate incidents on June 2nd and July 5th. Gaylor's body was found in the attic of Abare's home on East Sherman Street following an 11 hour standoff and shootout with police on July 10th.

In a news release, Leyton said "I want to make it very clear to the public that if you choose to hide or harbor a fugitive of justice, or in any way interfere with the investigation of a violent crime by lying to or misleading police during their investigation, you will be charged and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

The arrest warrant alleges Abare repeatedly lied to police about Gaylor's whereabouts and refused to cooperate along with providing false information when questioned by police. Leyton said "in this case, April Abare not only hindered the efforts of police who were searching for a suspect wanted for murder, but she knowingly put police officers at great risk of injury or death through her statements and actions."
