A Flint man has been charged in the 2012 double homicide and sexual assault case.

According to a news release, Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton has charged Marcus Allen Howell, 21, with two counts of felony murder, one count of first degree sexual assault, assault with intent to murder and two other charges related to the August 5, 2012 incident that left two men dead and a woman with knife wounds to her neck.

Police say the incident appeared to begin as a home invasion and robbery of the victims, but turned into murder and sexual assault. The case had remained under investigation with not enough probable cause evidence for criminal charges until new information surfaced that led investigators to Howell.

In a statement, Leyton said "sometimes the wheels of justice turn slowly but, we never give up on cases like these."

Howell faces life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted on the homicide charges.
