According to a news release from Genesee County Drain Commissioner Jeff Wright's Office, his department has been made aware that multiple out of state companies have been in the process of contacting area residents in an attempt to sell water line insurance. Specifically the insurance relates to potential breaks in residents' water lines located on their personal property between the road and their house.

Genesee County Water and Waste Services say they make no endorsement of this type of insurance and that a water line break of this type is extremely rare. They say over the past ten years there have been a total of seven breaks of this nature out of 200,000 residents served.

Genesee County Water and Waste Services warns residents should always use caution when any company offers a solicitation to provide any type of insurance service and make sure they have the most accurate information. It's also suggested that residents speak of any vulnerable loved ones who may be targeted by this type of solicitation and anyone considering this type of service should contact their homeowners insurance company as many home insurance polices cover this type of situation already.
