The City of Flint, which recently released its draft of a five-year Capital Improvement Plan for fiscal years 2015-2020, is hosting three sessions for the public to review the plan and provide comments as the city works towards formal adoption of the plan. In a news release, the city says input from these workshops will help ongoing revisions as it moves forward to finalizing and adopting the plan in the coming months.

The Capital Improvement Plan is a multi-year plan for expenditures by the city for rehabilitation, replacement and balancing of the city's capital systems over the next five years. It includes detailed cost assessments and capital project recommendations for physical improvements to be included in the city's capital improvement budgets.

The city's Imagine Flint Master Plan identifies the development of a capital improvement plan as a critical tool for implementing the recommendations of the Master Plan. If adopted, the CIP will serve as a valuable tool for budgeting capital  expenditures, optimize the use of taxpayer dollars, guide redevelopment and stabilization, as well as allow the city to maintain a sound and stable financial program. A capital improvement plan is also required under the states Municipal Planning Act.
