Vet from Michigan Honored for Guarding Tomb of the Unknown Soldier – The Good News
The 100-year-old man from Burton finally has his own plaque at the tomb after 80 years.
Jack Eaton is the oldest living guard of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. He protected it January of 1938 to December of 1939. He lives right here in Genesee County.
Did you know that every single soldier who does that job receives a plaque in the guards barracks? I didn't.
Eaton was touring the guard barracks in 2017 when he read through all the plaques...and realized that there wasn't one with his name on it.
He and his family inquired about it and, on Wednesday, he traveled to Virginia with the Honor Flight to see his plaque for the first time.
Thank you for your service, sir. You can see pictures of his trip HERE.
