Flint Teens Can Borrow Professional Clothes for Job Interviews

Two men, who both work for Flint schools, have joined together to put a program together for local teenagers.

Casey Lester is the President for the Flint Schools Board of Education; he's also the proud owner of The Roman, a men's clothing store downtown. He told MLive that before COVID hit, the store was holding workshops on skills like tying a tie.

“Everything was geared up, ready to go and then COVID hit. Then my garage was basically just a defunct men’s warehouse with 60 used suits in it. They sat there for quite some time and then it hit me that it would be a great fit for the Flint Community Schools.”

Meanwhile, Flint Southwestern Classical Academy Principal Christopher Ochodnicky was considering a program where suits would be donated and then loaned out to local teenagers for job interviews and formal events.

Ochodnicky and Lester decided to combine forces to open up The Jag Spot at Flint Southwestern Classical Academy.

The Jag Spot will be a room that houses formal wear; students can go there to rent items out for important events. Several local businesses have donated suits, and Jan’s Professional Dry Cleaners in Clio has kindly offered to clean the suits for free.

We LOVE that there are people in our community who are thinking of the teens in our schools. These kids ARE the future, and we need to give them the tools they need to succeed.
