"It’s just important for kids to be able to see themselves portrayed in a positive way."

A mother of six who grew up in Flint and now lives in Grand Blanc has started a mobile bookstore for kids of all different skin colors and hair textures called 4 Kids Like Mine.

Latashia Perry spoke to Bria Jones from Mid-Michigan Now about her mission to make sure that kids all feel included.

“It’s just important for kids to be able to see themselves portrayed in a positive way. We’re often saying that kids aren’t into reading anymore and I think just what it is... they don’t have books they can relate to, when kids can open up books and see characters that look like themselves it makes them more excited about reading."

Since the pandemic started, Latashia has been reading virtually to classrooms around the country. She also offers puzzles and party decorations on her website to go along with the books. She hopes to have her mobile bookstore up and running by March of 2021, which just happens to be National Reading Month.

You can purchase her books online HERE. Want to book her for a virtual reading? Click HERE.

We can't wait to see her mobile bookstore cruising around Genesee County!
