And they've been doing it for the last 15 years.

Traverse City Touching Hearts describes themselves as sending "encouragement and love to our young adults in college and the military in the form of letters, Bible verses, snacks, cards, homemade cookies, or a favorite candy bar."

Aside from their community outreach, they started the Adopt a Soldier program back in 2006. They pick a platoon or a troop overseas and send Christmas care packages. This year, they're sending some Christmas cheer to 250 soldiers on the USS Carney in the Mediterranean sea.

The packages, which weigh a total of 1,100 pounds, will be shipped out in early December and are expected to be delivered the week of Christmas.
