Cut Fiber Optic Cable Knocks Out Verizon Service for Many in Michigan
Can you hear me now? Many Verizon Wireless customers throughout Michigan reported losing phone service earlier today after a fiber optic cable was accidentally severed.
Customers in the Lansing area and those with iPhone devices were especially hard hit.
The outage occurred this morning at approximately 10:45. As of 3 pm today (2/27), Verizon is unable to estimate when service will be restored.
According to WILX, Verizon is encouraging customers to enable Wi-Fi calling in order to make and receive calls. Calls to 911 should go through as most cellphones are programmed to connect to any available network to make emergency calls.
