Scott Smith Formerly of Water Defense Segment 2 on the Flint Water Crisis
We spoke with Scott Smith Tuesday, February 19, and discussed a range of issues regarding his work as Chief Investigator for Water Defense shortly after a federal emergency was declared in January of 2016 over the water crisis in Flint.
Below is the second segment of our interview on Flint’s News Talk 1470 WFNT. Here are two big points to listen for in this first segment:
- Smith talks “tax exempt corporations” questioning the “not for profit” label. As a for profit business owner, who was also working at that time for the “tax exempt” organization, Water Defense, Smith came under scrutiny regarding his business ventures. Suggesting that “what is good for the goose is good for the gander,” he asks why there was not more scrutiny of the financial motives of some of the other “tax exempt” players, like Green For All, affiliated with Van Jones.
- We begin playing a fundraising appeal posted to social media by Van Jones of Green For All, and Smith responds.
