Another Michigan Church Pays Off Peoples’ Medical Debt – The Good News
This is the coolest new trend in religion and I hope that it spreads everywhere.
Add the Victory of Life church in Battle Creek to the list of churches who are truly taking care of their community - they've paid off the medical debt of 3,500 random residents in Calhoun, Kalamazoo, Branch, and Eaton counties.
The church worked with the nonprofit group RIP Medical Debt, which buys medical debt for a fraction of the original price. In this case, they purchased $3.89 million for $15,000.
The money was taken from the church's advertising budget so that no outreach programs would be affected.
Letters were sent out to the 3,500 recipients, saying that their medical debt had been paid in full with no strings attached by the church.
