The Flint School District's board of education will hold a special meeting tonight (Tues., Sept. 30) in which they will discuss asking the state for an advance on its annual aid payment. According to MLive, Flint school officials set a path towards this request when the board approved borrowing up to $17 million against its state aid. The Flint School District has a $20.4 million deficit and would need to borrow the money due to a cash flow shortage. School districts in Michigan do not receive September state aid checks.

The financially troubled district is still awaiting word on whether the Michigan Department of Education will approve its revised deficit elimination plan which would erase the deficit by 2021.
