Wednesday was count day for school districts across Michigan and numbers were down for the Flint School District. According to MLive, Interim Superintendent Larry Watkins said the district had 6,571 students at school yesterday. That's a drop of 149 students and could mean the loss of $1.1 million in per-pupil state aid. Flint school receive $7,566 per student and fall count day accounts for 90 percent of the district's per pupil funding. Watkins said the enrollment numbers mean "we will have to make some adjustments to the budget." He added it's the first time in years the district has not lost over 1,000 students. The financially troubled district has lost an average of 1,400 students each year for the past five years. Watkins said the district will have to resubmit its deficit elimination plan to the Michigan Dept. of Education since they didn't meet their goal and added any changes to the district wouldn't happen until after a student count audit is conducted by the Genesee Intermediate School District.
