The troubled Flint School District is reporting an enrollment jump of almost 600 students in the past week according to MLive. In a statement on Monday, interim Superintendent Larry Watkins said the district's enrollment was 6,323 after the second week of school, up from the 5,742 enrolled after the first four days of school. Watkins didn't say where the almost 600 additional students number came from, but the news could help the financially troubled district keep some of their state aid. Flint Schools stood to lose $4 million in state aid with that drop in students. Typically school districts do two student counts per year. However, the district is already facing a $20.4 million deficit and is now required to provide weekly reports to the Michigan Department of Education.
