Sewage sludge was released into the Flint River on Monday after a pump failure at the City of Flint Water Pollution Control Facility. The discharge lasted about four hours - beginning at 7 a.m. and lasting until 11 a.m. - according to city officials. The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, the Genesee County Health Department and officials in Flushing and Flint Township were all notified of the incident. City of Flint officials say that the incident happened miles down river from the Water Treatment Plant and that drinking water was not affected.
