The new Michigan Department of Human Services building has opened and Flint area residents who visit will find a safer, more convenient facility.

The $8 million, 40,000 square-feet building, located at 4809 Clio Road, is located right along a bus route and provides clients with a more pleasant environment for accessing DHS services and resources. In addition, its energy efficient design means operating costs are reduced. DHS workers begin moving into the facility today and it will open to clients Monday, Oct. 31.

Maura Corrigan, director of the Department of Human Services, says "the staff is eager to serve Genesee County residents in a facility that offers them a better, more efficient experience."

Construction on the new building was started in January of this year after more then 100 DHS staff had to evacuate the old DHS building at 4320 Pierson Road when the roof started to collapse in late April 2010.
