It's all about being in the right place at the right time and this local woman is proof of that. A 52-year-old woman from Brant can thank a local party store clerk with a big heart for helping her winning $1 million on a Michigan Lottery scratch-off ticket. Brant is just a few miles northwest of Chesaning, in Saginaw County.

How Did She Win?

The woman, who has chosen to remain anonymous, says she stopped by the Marion Springs General Store to grab a few items but got there just as the store was closing.

“My friend and I were on the way home for a bonfire and we needed to stop for a couple things,” the woman said. “We stopped at the Marion Springs General Store, but they must have just closed because the door was locked. We were standing at the door when a clerk came over to let us in."

The woman tells the Michigan Lottery that after the kind-hearted clerk let her in, she grabbed a couple of items and then decided to purchase some lottery tickets.

Delayed Reaction

The woman says she forgot about the tickets and didn't scratch them off until a couple of days later.

"I got home and got the fire going and forgot all about the tickets for a couple days," she said. "When I finally scratched it off, I was so surprised to win $1 million!”

The woman opted to take a lump-sum payment of $634,000 rather than installment payments. She tells the lottery she plans to use the money to make her life a little easier.
