Flint Schools Interim Superintendent Larry Watkins has announced that he will retire.

According to ABC 12, Watkins made the announcement on the school district's website and said now is the time for him to retire so the search can begin for a new superintendent. Watkins has been serving as interim superintendent since January 2013. He had previously retired after working for the district for 25 years. Watkins is leaving the district just a few weeks after announcing the closure of several schools as the district attempts to erase a $21 million deficit.
