Flint boxer Claressa Shields is officially an Olympian according to the Detroit News.

The 17-year-old is heading to London after England's Savannah Marshall - who beat Shields in a preliminary bout - won her semifinal match to advance to the championship fight in the middleweight division in China.

Shields, a junior at Flint Northwestern, won the U.S. Olympic Trials in February and up until last weekend in China, had never lost an amateur bout.

In London, women's boxing makes its debut as an Olympic sport.
