Cat Alerts Michigan Family to House Fire – The Good News

Yes, cats can be gigantic jerks. And they can also save your life, which is why we love them so much. They're fantastic, multi-faceted creatures.

Firefighters in Grand Rapids are crediting a family's cat with saving their lives after their house started on fire.

The cat woke the family up just after 6 AM yesterday. Their house had no working smoke detectors; they were able to escape without injury. Firefighters arrived to find smoke moving up to the second floor; they believe that the fire started in the kitchen.

The family has seven cats, one dog and a rat. All but two of the cats (including the one that alerted the family) were found safe, as well as the other animals in the house.

Grand Rapids residents are currently searching for the hero kitteh.
