Over 3 million Michiganders are expected to travel for the year-end holiday season according to projections from AAA.

AAA says this is an increase of almost two percent from last year and the upward trend "marks the highest travel volume for the holiday period in 14 years."

While driving remains the most popular mode of travel for the year-end holidays, air travel is expected to increase by 0.7 percent with 5.8 million Americans flying to their holiday destinations. Travel by other modes of transportation - including cruises, trains and buses - is also expected to increase by 2.4 percent to 3.4 million travelers.

On the national level, AAA says the number of year-end travelers is expected to top 100 million for the first time on record.
