State Senator Jim Ananich, a Democrat from Flint, has filed to run for re-election to the 27th District in Genesee County. Ananich had been serving in the state Senate since winning a special election last year.

In a statement, Ananich said "my top priority is being a strong voice in Lansing for Genesee County families. I plan to work hard earning their vote to continue our fight for good jobs, better schools and safer neighborhoods."

Among some of the things Ananich has been fighting for while in Lansing are: scrap metal theft reform, improving public safety, worker training programs and job creation measures. He currently serves on four committees: Banking and Financial Institutions, Economic Development, Health Policy and Transportation.

The current 27th District includes the cities of Flint, Flushing, Fenton, Linden, Montrose and Swartz Creek and the townships of Argentine, Clayton, Fenton, Flint, Flushing, Gaines, Genesee, Montrose and Mundy. With redistricting this fall, the new boundaries will include the cities of Flint, Burton, Clio, Mt. Morris and Swartz Creek along with the townships of Flint, Forest, Genesee, Mt. Morris, Richfield, Thetford and Vienna.
