ACO Hardware, Michigan's largest independent hardware retailer, has announced they will close 14 of its 66 locations within the state beginning today, May 23rd.

According to MLive, two locations in Genesee County - Clio and Fenton - will be among the closures.  The company says the stores were underperforming and the decision to shut them down was made in order to "improve and strengthen the company's financial performance."

ACO said it is also in the process of remodeling its other stores in order to make shopping easier and to better showcase the wide variety of products they offer. They have also begun new advertising and marketing efforts designed to spotlight the redesigned stores and expanded selection.

ACO will have complete inventory sales specials beginning today to reduce the amount of product it has to help consolidate its remaining locations. They have yet to announce the actual closing dates for the stores being closed.
