AAA Michigan: 1.1 Million Residents to Travel for Memorial Day Weekend

An estimated 1.1 million Michigan residents will travel 50 miles or more on vacation during the upcoming Memorial Day weekend according to AAA Michigan. The Memorial Day holiday travel period is defined as Thursday, May 23rd to Monday, May 27th.

AAA says state travel is projected to be the same as last year and they project 34.8 million travelers nationally, a slight decrease from the previous year.

Even with higher gas prices in Michigan, 92 percent are expected to travel by vehicle which is slightly more than last year.

Among the popular state travel destinations are campgrounds, resort areas and lakes.
