Jordan Acker is the chair of the University of Michigan Board of Regents. praised the survivors who came forward.
"We hope this settlement will begin the healing process for survivors," Acker said. "At the same time, the work that began two years ago, when the first brave survivors came forward, will continue."
Attorney Parker Stinar tells NPR that the agreement was reached Tuesday (1/18) evening. He represents about 200 hundred of Anderson's mostly-male victims and says the journey to resolve multiple lawsuits has been a long, painstaking process.
"It has been a long and challenging journey, and I believe this settlement will provide justice and healing for the many brave men and women who refused to be silenced," said Stinar,
A report conducted by a firm hired to investigate Anderson's actions revealed that the school missed many opportunities to stop Anderson during his tenure at the school.
The multi-million dollar settlement comes just four days after U of M President Mark Schlissel was dismissed by the board for an alleged inappropriate relationship with a university employee.
