A retired Saginaw police detective has been arrested and charged with eight felony counts of child pornography.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton says 51-year-old Brent David Vanderhaar of Flint Township was arrested Tuesday afternoon by the Michigan State Police. According to an MSP investigation, Vanderhaar had stopped into a McDonalds restaurant/Mobil gas station in Bay County on November 6th. While there, he dropped three SD digital media cards that were later found by store employees. A manager viewed the images on the SD cards and they appeared to be of a minor. The manager then contacted the police.

The most serious charges carry sentences of up to 20 years in prison. Vanderhaar is being held in custody at the Genesee County Jail and is to be arraigned in 67th District Court this morning.
