A woman in Roseville, Michigan is facing child abuse charges after the boy she was babysitting sustained brain damage and life-threatening injuries.

Taylor Starks says she left her 11-month-old son with a woman she had trusted to watch the boy in the past but now blames her for the injuries he's sustained.

What Are the Details?

Starks left the boy in the care of Kimora Hodges on June 13. Early the next morning she got a text from the woman saying the boy was having an allergic reaction from eating part of a bar of soap. She initially believed the woman's story but tells WJBK-TV that when she arrived at her apartment, she found her son Kyrie in really bad shape.

"Once I made it there my baby was on the ground having seizure, after seizure, after seizure," she said.

Medical Exam Reveals Abuse

Doctors tell Startks that Kyrie suffered from extreme abuse, allegedly at the hands of the babysitter.

"All I know is she threw my son into the wall and shook him up pretty bad and they said that's just a bit of what she did to him," Starks said.

Starks tells the TV station that her son suffered from blunt force trauma to the head and was bleeding from his ears.

In the past week, Kyrie has had brain surgery but doctors say they are unable to detect any brain activity.

Babysitter Faces Charges

Roseville police say the woman is cooperating with their investigation and does show remorse for her actions. She faces first-degree child abuse charges and is being held on a $250,000 bond.
