NHL Announces Realignment Plans; Red Wings in Midwest Conference
The NHL has announced plans for realignment and the Detroit Red Wings would move into an eight-team, Midwest-based conference.
According to the Detroit News, the NHL Board of Commissioners has given authority to commissioner Gary Bettman to implement the four-conference format beginning next season.
The Red Wings have played in the Western Conference for the last 13 years and often have to endure a more rigorous travel schedule then other NHL teams during the season and playoffs.
