Miss Michigan, Elizabeth Wertenberger, will be making several stops in Genesee County tomorrow, March 28.

From 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Wertenberger will visit with children at Cook Elementary School in Grand Blanc for their D-Town Cafe project. The students have been training to run this cafe and learn their jobs - cashier, chef, hostess, etc. The project covers science, social studies, language arts, writing and math. Students came up with the business name, surveyed customers, trained positions and decided where their money would go. The student went to Hockeytown to film their commercial and then later decided to donate the money to the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals at Hurley.

Miss Michigan will also be a guest griller at a special CMN Hospitals fundraiser at BD's Mongolian Grill on Miller Road in Flint from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. In 1997, when Alex Ray of Swartz Creek was six weeks old, he had one-third of his right lung removed at Hurley Medical Center. Today, the Swartz Creek High School student is defying the odds. He plays football, baseball and is a talented musician having won Swartz Creek's American Idol competition four times. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go to support the completion of his record and video. Proceeds of the song will go directly to CMN Hospitals
