In all honesty, I had no idea.

Did you know that 1/3 of Christmas tree fires happen in January? Neither did I.

29% of fires in the month of January can be directly attributed to dried-out Christmas trees. They become even more combustible, the drier they get.

The Bridgeport Fire Department posted all of this information on their Facebook page as a public service announcement.

And another note - if you're getting rid of a Christmas tree, it's advised NOT to put it in your garage or out by the street. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is reminding people that fires can ALSO start in your garage or out by the curb, and suggest that you call your local Department of Public Works and ask about a tree recycling program.
