The Michigan Department of Transportation has announced that work to I-475 in Flint and Burton will begin later this month.

MDOT says they will complete concrete and joint repairs on I-475 over Atherton Road and the I-475 ramp terminals between Bristol Road and Atherton Road. Concrete pavement repairs will also be completed between Bristol and Atherton Roads on I-475. In preparation for the project, MDOT crews will make pavement repairs to the planned detour route along South Grand Traverse St. between Atherton and Bristol.

MDOT says the following traffic restrictions will be put in place:

  • Northbound I-475: Beginning May 9th, northbound I-475 will be detoured while crews complete bridge work and pavement repairs. Drivers will exit at Bristol, take South Grand Traverse and re-enter I-475 at the Atherton Road ramp.
  • Southbound I-475: Following the completion of northbound I-475 improvements (about two weeks), southbound I-475 traffic will be detoured. Motorist will exit at Atherton Road, take South Grand Traverse.
  • Atherton Road and left-turn lane south of Atherton Road: While bridge work is completed on I-475, the left turn lane under the interstae just south of Atherton Road will be closed and detoured to the turnaround just north of Hemphill Road. Motorists can also expect single-lane closures in each direction on Atherton Road under I-475 beginning on Monday, April 25th.

Following this work, MDOT says work crews will require one additional day of closures on I-475 in each direction to place an epoxy overlay on the bridge decks. All work is expected to be completed sometime in June.
