The City of Flint Police Department say results of a February inventory count of weapons show that 22 are missing. The department is blaming poor record keeping for the discrepancy saying that during the process, it found "no documentation of a complete inventory in the last 30 years. However, there was documentation of partial inventory in 2003."

The Flint Police Department says going forward, procedures have been put in place that mandate a full accounting of the department's firearm inventory twice per year, forwarded through the chain of command.
