According to Flint Police Chief Tim Johnson, the department expects to add 15 more police officers by the fall.

MLive says "the new hires will be a mix of certified police officers and others who will go through the police academy." Johnson wouldn't say how many officers the department currently has, but the head of the Flint Police Officers Association says there are about 100.

Johnson said he expects response times to come down due to the hiring of the new officers. The head of the police officers union estimated four more officers per shift and a 20 percent improvement in response time.
