Flint Emergency Manager Darnell Earley has filed notice of his intent to hire a public safety consultant to look at the Flint Police and Fire Department operations.

MLive says Earley signed a resolution authorizing an $85,100 contract with the International City/County Management Association's Center for Public Safety for the study which will be funded by the state and the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.

Earley had announced plans for the consultant when he introduced a $55 million general fund budget. However, it went unnoticed as proposed cuts of 36 police and 19 firefighters were focused on.
