The Flint Fire Department is looking to take care of some long running problems with the federal grant money they have received.

The federal grant gave the Flint FD $267,000 to upgrade equipment, and protective gear.  Most people thought the money would be used toward payroll, but the fire department got more good news about that last week.

The department received a SAFER grant that let them keep all the current firefighters on staff, and possibly expand the staff according to ABC12.

Mayor Karen Weaver, and Fire Chief Raymond Barton are holding a press conference later today to give details about how the grant money will be used.

This is great news for a department that is already spread thin in Flint.
