Six candidates interested in becoming the next superintendent of Flint Community Schools have been revealed.

Down from an original 27 applicants, the six are: Bilal Kareem Tawwab - Assistant Superintendent of Detroit Public Schools; Dr. Kimber Leverette - Assistant Superintendent of Pontiac Schools; Jerri-Lynn Williams-Harper - Superintendent of Albion Schools; Dr. Jesse Kilgore - current Assistant Superintendent of Flint Schools; Dr. Frederick Hill - Superintendent of schools in Natchez, Mississippi and Errick Green - Managing Director of Insight Education Group in Washington DC. According to ABC 12, everyone but Hill already has ties to Flint Schools or the area in general. All also have had administration jobs in financially struggling, urban districts, a factor the school board says is crucial.

Public interviews of the candidates will take place next Tuesday through Thursday beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Southwestern Classical Academy. The Flint School Board hopes to choose a new superintendent by the end of the month. Earlier this year, Interim Superintendent Larry Watkins announced his plans to retire. Watkins has said he won't retire any earlier than September so there will be some overlap once the new superintendent in chosen.
