The water crisis has Flint Community Schools considering a year-round calendar as a way to fight the effects of lead exposure.

According to ABC 12, a meeting was held on Tuesday in which Flint teachers met at the Michigan Education Association building to discuss the possibility. Karen Christian, President of the teachers' union United Teachers of Flint, said the district approached them a couple of weeks ago about a possible change. In order for a change to be made, the teachers would have to re-open their contracts and due to the timing, it is unlikely that it will happen for the 2016-17 school year. However, the contract negotiations resume for the 2017-18 school year where it could be brought up again.
