Bill in Michigan Proposed to Change Campground Reservations

Under a proposed bill, Michigan residents would get a head-start on reserving campsites at state parks...

...but does that really solve the problem?

If you haven't already tried to reserve a camping site at a Michigan state park or forest, it's...interesting. You can book as far as six months ahead of time so, in short, you don't have time to make a last-minute decision about Memorial Day weekend or the 4th of July.

House Bill 4519 would require the DNR to give Michigan residents a two-week window to book campsites before out-of-state tourists. It was proposed by Rep. Steven Johnson, R-Wayland, who says that Michiganders should get "first dibs" since our tax dollars pay for the upkeep.

I like this idea, but I'm also not convinced that it's the answer to the problem.  What do YOU think?
