Gas prices increased from last week, AAA Michigan reports. Michigan's current statewide average is about $2.29 per gallon, about five cents more than last week's average. It's the third week in a row that weekly gas prices have risen above $2.

Of the cities surveyed by AAA, the cheapest price for self serve, unleaded fuel can be found in the Flint area, where it's about $2.22 a gallon. The highest averages can be found in the Traverse City area where it's about $2.36 per gallon.

According to AAA, February typically marks the start of seasonal refinery maintenance in preparation for the busy summer driving season. There is also additional market uncertainty because more than 5,000 members of the steelworkers union have walked off their jobs at refineries and chemical plants responsible for processing more than 10 percent of the U.S. petroleum products.

AAA surveys more than 2,800 Michigan gas stations daily. To find out more, including where the cheapest prices in the nation are, go to AAA.com.
