Gas prices around the state have nudged up five cents since last week according to AAA Michigan's Fuel Gauge Report. Michigan's current statewide average is about $2.26 per gallon.

Of the ten Michigan metro areas surveyed by AAA for self-serve unleaded fuel prices, the lowest average prices can be found in the Flint area where it's about $2.24 per gallon. The highest averages can be found in the Ann Arbor area where it's about $2.28 a gallon.

According to the latest reports from AAA, Michigan placed ninth in the nation for largest monthly increases in gas prices and that gas inventories in the midwest fell for the 12th consecutive week due to growing demand and heavy refinery maintenance. AAA also says disruptions in the oil supply could result in higher costs for refiners, which could lead to higher gas prices. Prices in the region are likely to remain volatile in the near term, and will continue to reflect the ability of supply to keep pace with demand.
