Thousands are still without power in Genesee County after severe weather and storms hit the area on Thursday.

According to the 4 a.m. update from Consumers Energy, there are 26,975 businesses and residences without power throughout the county. The hardest hit areas were Flint, Grand Blanc and Flushing.

According to Consumers, customers in the hardest hit counties - Genesee, Ingham and Clinton - may not receive electric service until Saturday or Sunday. Estimates will be updated as assessment and repairs continue.

Consumers Vice President of Energy Delivery Garrick Rochow says they "expect additional assistance today from contract crew within and outside of Michigan."

With the extreme temperatures continuing today and tomorrow across Michigan, Consumers Energy is recommending residents try and stay cool and hydrated. A list of cooling centers is available at www.consumersenergy.com.
