A search for a person that will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the City of Flint is about to get underway. Emergency Manager Darnell Earley told Flint City Council that "the position I will be advertising for will be a city manager" and "it is my intent to begin that process in the next two weeks." Earley added he would "cast the widest net I can."

According to MLive, the new position is included in the new budget that began July 1. The potential hiring of a city administrator has been discussed for months. The Blue Ribbon Committee on Governance has evaluated multiple systems in which the city manager would work with the local government and is expected to deliver its final report to Earley later this month.

Earley, who previously worked as a city manager, said the strong manager system of government tends to produce better results. He said "I believe any city is better served with a trained administrator...just like in the private sector."
