If you or anyone in your family is on a restricted diet due to food allergies, you need to check your refrigerator. Prime Pak Foods, based in Gainesville, Georgia, recalled about 24,000 pounds of fully cooked breaded chicken-breast products over the weekend. The products are being recalled because of misbranding and undeclared allergens.

During an April 17 inspection by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, it was discovered that the chicken-breast products were formulated with egg and wheat, known allergens that were not listed on the labels.

The products being recalled are:

  • 10-pound box labeled “Sugar Lake Farms Fully Cooked Breaded Chicken Breast Tenders” containing two 5-pound bags with product code 77422 on the box
  • 10-pound box labeled “Sugar Lake Farms Fully Cooked Spicy Breaded Chicken Breast Chunks” containing two 5-pound bags with product code 77448 on the box.

These Sugar Lake Farms products were produced from December 2012 through March 2014 and were distributed to hotels, restaurants and institutions nationwide.

This is considered to be a Class I recall by the USDA, which is defined as “a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.”
