A new hockey team could be coming to Flint's Perani Arena. That was just one of the announcements on Tuesday when a news conference was held at the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce detailing a Florida-based company's planned $3 million investment into the area. IMS USA announced it was investing in Perani and Iceland Arena in Clayton Township. The company's goal is to grow youth hockey and bring more events and tournaments to both arenas. According to ABC 12, the president of IMS, Costa Papista, said Perani will soon look better and have more events held there. "Our plan long term is to enhance the caliber of hockey for Flint and Genesee County. And to that end we have an application in to the USHL, which is the premier Tier One league in the United States." If a USHL team ends up at Perani, the Michigan Warriors of the North American Hockey League would likely move to another city. The group also announced plans to put a new sign next to I-69 and give the exterior of Perani a facelift.
