Ebola is scaring people on zombie-apocalypse levels (though it really shouldn't), so it’s the new media darling, but the virus we’re all far more likely to catch and get seriously ill from is one that’s very preventable: the flu. It runs rampant every year, and we’re all quite fortunate that there’s a vaccine that can save our lives and the lives of those we love.

While one person in the history of recorded statistics has ever died from Ebola on U.S. soil, the flu virus kills 3,000-49,000 Americans each year. It will, undoubtedly, hit anywhere from 5 to 20 percent of us. What’s even more concerning is that you can spread the flu even before you know you have it. If you’ve got a fever, you’ve already become contagious.

That’s why it’s time to head out and get your flu shot. If the clear, concise video above, posted by Healthcare Triage, doesn’t convince you that a flu shot is the best and safest way to protect yourself from getting ill and ending up in the hospital this flu season, perhaps the thought of symptoms like fever or chills, sore throat, muscle aches, headaches, extreme fatigue, vomiting and diarrhea will.
