As part of a national effort to unite neighborhoods against crime, the Flint police Department will host a National Night Out event next week. The event will feature live entertainment, bounce houses, face painting and games, as well as free hot dogs, popcorn and ice cream. There will also be some giveaways of backpacks filled with school supplies and bicycles. The Flint Fire Department's "smokehouse" safety demonstration and other displays will be on site.

Among those teaming up with the Flint Police Department are Target, the Michigan State Police, the Police Athletic League, the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Flint and the public safety departments from Mott Community College, U of M - Flint and Baker College.

The National Night Out event begins at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5th on the lawn behind the Flint Police Department. For more information, visit the event's Facebook page here.
