Summer is a time when the kids are out of school and have a lot – maybe too much – time on their hands. Beginning June 10, Hill Road Hoops will bring a little dribble to summer days with youth basketball training camps. The seven four-day camp sessions will be tailored to challenge the skills of youth ages 8 through 17 and will cover warm-ups, agility and skills training.

Players in fourth through eighth grades, or ninth-grade beginners, will attend from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., and the high school elite camp will take place daily from noon to 3 p.m. All camps are held Mondays through Thursdays beginning June 10.

“Our goal is to prove an affordable and fun way to not just keep kids busy during the summer months, but teach them lifelong skills through helping them hone skills that are important to them – in this case, basketball,” said Luke Lloyd, Hill Road Hoops owner and founder.

Cost is $99 for one session, $175 for two sessions and $250 for three sessions.

The program will take off the week of the Fourth of July holiday, and the camps will end August 2.

The Hill Road Hoops basketball training camps are geared toward giving boys and girls the skills they need, the challenges they will accept and the abilities to work on their game when they don’t have to worry about their academics or other school-related responsibilities.

Lloyd and four trainers work with students to perfect their basketball skills as well as how to be confident, motivated people off the court as well.

“They get more hours and they have more time to spend on the court,” Lloyd said. “More time to practice, and practice the right things. It also keeps them off the streets.”

Hill Road Hoops, a 30,000-square-foot facility in Flint, Mich., was founded in 2008. The facility offers youth leagues and tournaments on three full-size hardwood basketball courts, one half court and a 5,000-square-foot fitness area. Open gym and rentals also are available for youth groups, and an open gym for volleyball is available for adults from 7 to 9 p.m. on Fridays.
