Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Dead at 87

She passed away from complications from pancreatic cancer.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the Supreme Court Justice who had served our country sincew 1993, has passed away at the age of 87.

The "Notorious RBG" was only the second woman ever appointed to the court; she was nominated for the seat by President Bill Clinton on June 14, 1993 and started serving on August 10, 1993.

RBG was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 15th, 1933. Her mother, who she's cited. as one of her "biggest sources of encouragement," died when she was in high school; she attended Cornell University for her undergraduate and then Harvard Law School. She transfered to Columbia Law School and graduated tied for first in her class.

She was married to Martin D. Ginsburg, who was the law professor at Georgetown. They had two children - Jane and James.

Ginsburg suffered from cancer four different times; she had surgery for colon cancer in 1999, without missing a day on the bench. In 2009, she underwent treatment for pancreatic cancer. In 2018, she fell in her office and broke three ribs. and, after an MRI, cancerous nodules were discovered on her lungs. In 2019, it was announced that her pancreatic cancer had returned.

She was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame in 2002. She was also named as one of the 100 Most Powerful Women and one of TIME magazine's 100 Most Influential People.
