Dear Dr. Psarcasm,

Taylor Swift’s invitation of that guy with leukemia to an awards ceremony after he invited her to his prom has inspired me.  I have severe acne and it makes me very self conscious.  I’m 18 years old and have never been on an “official” date.  I am thinking of posting a video at my blog inviting Jeremy Lin to my prom.  He’s so hot!  But he’s also super smart.  Should I go for it?

Megan from Swartz Creek

Dear Megan,

Inviting celebrities to proms/balls is definitely a hot trend.  Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake launched this when they each accepted video invitations to the Marine Corp Ball.  Taylor Swift couldn’t make the prom she was invited to,  so what did she do?  She had no choice but to suggest an alternative.  Now it’s red carpet and tux time for the young man who had the chutspa to ask.  You need to strike NOW!  Until a celebrity turns down such an invitation the pressure will be almost unbearable for most celebrities to accept.  But once one is turned down, it’s all over.  (It’ll take a Lady Gaga or Lindsay Lohan to end it all with one resolute, “Absolutely not.”)  I want to compliment you on your choice:  Jeremy Lin CAN’T say no.  In fact, I think you could safely set your sights even higher.  Could there be wedding bells in your future, “Mrs. Lin?”  Well, there won’t be if you don’t ask!  Go for it, Megan!  (And don’t forget to send me an invitation…)

Good Luck!
