Organizers of this year's Crim Festival of Races said they will review security procedures in light of Monday's incident at the Boston Marathon when two explosions occurred near the finish line.

Race Director Andrew Younger told NBC 25 that public safety is always a concern and the attack in Boston rattled the Crim organizers "to the core."

The Michigan State Police, along with the Flint Police and Fire Departments, work closely with race organizers each year to ensure participants and spectators have a safe and enjoyable experience. They also coordinate with local hospitals in case necessary.

Younger said "we are not going to let an event like this prevent people from having a wonderful time."

This year's festival is scheduled for August 23-24.
